Caterina Genta graduated in dance and choreography from the Folkwangschule, working in particular with Jean Cebron and the historically famous dancers of Pina Bausch’s Wuppertaler Tanztheater. She has danced in choreographies by Susanne Linke, Jose Limon, Jean Cebron, Vivien Bridson. In Italy she worked with the Teatro Valdoca, Balletto ’90, Giuseppina von Bingen, Palermo Danza, Vuelazul, Vera Stasi. And in cinema with Marco Bellocchio, Francesco Maselli, Giuseppe Bertolucci. Her meeting with the butoh dancer Tetsuro Fukuhara in 1998 encouraged her personal development. Performer and author she is interested in a search for a form of movement that begins with technique but goes beyond, an authentic expression, a synthesis between visual and performing arts. In 2005 she graduated from La Sapienza University in Rome in the History of Dance. Finalist in the Premio Equilibrio 2008. Since 2006 she has been collaborating with the composer and video artist Marco Schiavoni with whom she signs the shorts and theater projects they produce. Among these is the performance “Di qui a cinque anni”, reviewed in a 30 page article by the Hispanic critic Milena Locatelli in the journal SIGNA, Centro de investigation literaria, teatral y nueva tecnologias (University of Madrid). In 2011 she began a four-year training period in the Feldenkrais method. Since 2011 Caterina Genta and Marco Schiavoni have been directing the Balletto di Spoleto. In 2012 they participated in the International Festival of New Dance in Cagliari. Their performance Bolero del Drago Rosso is the winner of the first price and the critic’s price in the Festival Voci Dell’Anima 2013. Recently performed in Spoleto Festival, in Weather, a dramatic oratory by Elizabeth Swados.
